Heart of Hearts
By Anne Margrethe Lund
I will walk down the lane
to face my desires, my loss and my pain.
I dare to go 'cause by my side
the Master of Wisdom will be my guide
to my Heart of Hearts.
The path is strange: A strong turns weak,
a crippled may run there, if his heart is meek.
The proud must bow to see the signs
that grow between tangles in his soul and draw lines
to his Heart of Hearts!
Walking the empty tunnels,
feeling you're left behind,
search hidden treasures’ joy in your secret mind.
Easy access to glory,
may postpone the start
seeking the inner road to your Heart of Hearts!
I thought that joy was at the end
of hard work and honour and schools I attend.
But joy is
near, she is a bird
the Lord
sends to sing me the songs she has heard
in His Heart
of Hearts.
The songs
make me feel I'm rooted
all through a
deep despair:
Soon I will
chant my hymns in the open air.
Then I can
leave behind me
stones that
I’ve got on my cart
that I can
force the threshold
to my Heart
of Hearts!
I will come
down the lane.
To see the
gate open
will lighten
my strain.
The last
steps make me let it go:
The plummet
that kept me,
now my spirit
will flow
into my Heart
of Hearts!
